Lake Spillway Work to BeginWinter Lake Estates Residents,
The trustees, special project teams, and district reps have been busy since our annual meeting to improve communications, respond to immediate needs and organize for the future.
Sometime during this next week, a contractor, Kelpe Contracting, will begin repair on the spillway of our lake. Over a period of time, the spillway as been undermined and washed out. This repair is weather dependent.
This most probable was caused when there was a major leak in the dam 4 or 5 years ago. The hole under the spillway is approximately 20 cubic yards large. That is about the size of the lower half of 10x12 bedroom. Yes, it looks like a cave under there! It will be filled with up to 20-25 cu yds of grout by being pumped from the street.
The contractor will have equipment on Winter Lake Drive at the east lake sidewalk (this is the sidewalk that goes directly down to the dam.) We will restrict parking on both sides of Winter Lake Drive during the construction.
We ask your patience with the contractor as they will be blocking one of the lanes and will have equipment moving in and out of here. The work should take 2 to 3 days.
We will have one more repair on the lake to stop erosion on parts of the south side of the lake. The same contractor will finish this part of the project by placing a rock blanket on the south shore from the spillway to the treeline and one other spot needing erosion control. This will be done some time in the future (next month or two.)
